Nervous flyers or avid smokers needing a nicotine fix before boarding their aircraft can make use of the Smokers Gallery at Belfast International Airport.
For a one pound fee introduced to off-set the cost of building the bespoke structure, smokers can indulge their pleasure legally in the otherwise non-smoking environment.
The management at Belfast International Airport "... recognised that there was a demand for a smoking facility from some customers given that all public places (including airports ) are ... non smoking." The move has been supported by both smokers and non-smokers alike.
The Airside Smokers Gallery is attached to the Departure Lounge. Constructed using galvanised steel mesh and with a surface area of approximately 28 square metres, it is suspended some 10m above ground level.
The floor of the gallery is made from black plastic composite decking. Known as Deck25, and virtually maintenance free, the product is a 90% recycled, eco friendly mix, made from recycled plastic bottles, yoghurt pots and wood fibre and has exceptional anti-slip properties, even when wet. A smoker's haven that is environment friendly.
