Debate over the benefit of privatising Cork Airport

Cllr Chris O'Leary, Sinn Fein, believes that plans to sell Cork Airport to a private investor would be to the detriment of the city and its people. The government are looking at the feasibility of selling some of its assets to address the debt crisis. Cork Airport would be included in this. The councillor advised that any private investor would be looking at building up the asset in the short and then look to sell it at a high profit margin. This would affect the long term plans and strategy of the airport and it would lose ground in the long run compared to other airports. He has asked fellow politicians to comment on the plans to sell the airport.
