Michael O'Connell, the lord mayor of Cork, has invited Queen Elizabeth II to visit the city in her Royal visit to Ireland. He advised that he is "extremely confident that Cork will form part of her itinerary...". Cork airport staff are now looking at plans for the visit and ensuring that all necessary measures would be in place. The visit will increase the profile of the city internationally and should lead to higher visitor numbers to Cork city and surrounding areas. With many regular flights to and from UK airports to Cork International airport, it would be an easy destination for UK tourists to reach.
