Air Support Unit for the Garda Siochana were called out on the night of 11th Septmeber to investigate reports from a Ryanair crew that they were targetted by a laser beam from the ground near to the airport grounds in Dublin. While co-ordinating the operation with ground units the air unit itself was also targetted by a similar laser beam.
The person/s responsilbe for this were not caught but it has given great comcern to the Gardai and Dublin air traffic controllers. This is not the first incident of this type of crime as other flight crews have revealed they have been affected by a laser in the environs of the airport and also reports of this act have been recorded at Shannon. Gardai are currently investigating this further as continuation of this will be the lives of anyone who flies, or lives around or works at the airports, at risk.
